Traditional gender roles

The traditional female role is being maneuvered out of existence. Full participation in taxation is now favorable among many couples as its more profitable to the powers that be. Today you could very well find woman being the bread winner and the man at home tending to children. In some cases the woman makes more money than the man. Times and mentalities have changed, and women have taken on so many different roles and responsibilities that where one once considered 'men only'. And I feel that we've proven ourselves time and time again to be capable of assuming these roles if we choose. It is not a woman's main, and sole responsibility in life to have children, be married to a man, cater to her man's every whim, and take care of home. People can live how they wish but on a larger scale, a society with rigid gender roles cannot have equal rights or opportunities for men and women. Not all men are alike and not all women are alike. I believe in treating people as equal individuals which is why I am an Egalitarian

Slut Shaming

“Slut” is a derogatory term used to degrade & shame an individual’s sexuality. More often than not, the shaming is directed at women by both men and women and serves to keep her “in her place”. The term “slut” contributes to rape culture. It is paired with the idea that some women don’t behave (“sluts”), and those women are pretty much asking for rape/harassment/assault. Though the mechanism does not operate fully consciously, the term “slut” is often used in response to perceived threat. Threatened by a woman taking control of her sexuality, jealousy, threatened by having less experience than her, feeling less desired than her, etc. It is an expression of discomfort with female sexuality on the whole. Some women have responded to this oppression by reclaiming the term. I personally think it’s better left behind us. It is not worth reclaiming because it comes from a place of hatred for female sexuality.
